AA Commemorates 10th Anniversary of the Deaths of 8 Officer Cadets

Arakha Times (22 November 2024)

The Arakan Army (AA) held a memorial ceremony at the Martyrs’ Hill, where the officer cadets lost their lives, to mark the 10th anniversary of the deaths of eight officer cadets, according to an AA statement.

The announcement noted that 19 November 2024 marks ten years since the officer cadets sacrificed their lives while serving their country and people.

Each year, depending on the military and political situation, the AA organizes commemorative events, such as laying wreaths at the Martyrs’ Hill, where the officer cadets fell, and flying flags at half-mast at military bases. These events are held to mourn and honor the fallen cadets.

This year, due to the current military circumstances, only a brief memorial event could be held. The AA emphasized in its statement that 19 November would never be forgotten, and the sacrifices of these officer cadets for the nation and its people would always be remembered.

On 19 November 2014, a total of 23 officer cadets, including 9 AA cadets, lost their lives when the Myanmar military launched an artillery strike on the Woi Chyai Bum Officer Training School, located within the Kachin Independence Army’s headquarters.
