Local Resident in Pauktaw Township Seriously Injured by Junta Artillery Fired from Sittwe

It has been reported that a local resident of Pauktaw Township was seriously injured after the Military Council’s 908th Field Engineer Battalion, based near Kyarmathauk Village in Sittwe, fired heavy artillery shells.

“Around 5 PM yesterday (10 July), artillery shells landed in Nyaungpinyein Village, causing one villager to be seriously injured,” a local resident from Pauktaw Township told Arakha Times.

The person who sustained serious injuries from the junta’s heavy artillery has been identified as U Kyaw Hla Maung, a 53-year-old resident of Nyaungpinyein Village, Pauktaw Township.

The Arakha Army had fully seized control of Pauktaw Township on 4 March 2024.

Although displaced people wish to return and resettle in liberated areas like Pauktaw Township, it is understood that the Arakha Army has not yet permitted return to places near Sittwe Township.
