Authorities Should Act Against Brokers in Muse

Humanitarian organizations have called for government action against brokers in Muse who are recruiting workers with false promises of jobs in China.
These brokers attract people to Muse with the promise of employment, but once they arrive, they find that the promised work permits for China are not forthcoming, leaving them stranded in Muse.
Although brokers have previously facilitated labor migration to China from Muse, the current situation has worsened, with an increasing number of people being abandoned. A spokesperson from a humanitarian organization stated that local authorities should intervene, as the problem has become serious.
The spokesperson explained, “ The situation is deteriorating significantly. When we visit neighborhoods, we see that many have been stranded for three to four months, struggling without enough funds. These brokers need to be stopped. We question if the authorities in Muse are aware of these activities or if they are simply turning a blind eye. Even one day of field inspection would reveal the truth,” they told the Arakkha Times.
Many people have been stranded in Muse for three to four months, as the work permits from China have not arrived, and the brokers have abandoned them. It’s estimated that around 5,000 Myanmar nationals are currently stranded in Muse, not only in large areas like the Thein Than Chi Car Zone but also in rented accommodations throughout various neighborhoods.
A representative from the Heartful Charity explained, “ As far as we know, the border is still closed; they’re not accepting new entries. They told us themselves that they’re still not allowing anyone through. Factory owners from the other side have to personally come to recruit workers and agree to bring them in. Some need to pay 30 yuan per day for meals and lodging. However, the rising cost of goods is a significant issue. Eggplants, for example, now cost over 10,000 kyats per viss (1.6 kg), and prices for all other goods are increasing as well,” they told the Arakkha Times.
Due to the closure of border gates on the Chinese side, there is currently a shortage of food and consumer goods in Muse. Additionally, residents report difficulties in obtaining fuel, and supply levels are insufficient to meet local demand.
