Military Council Drops Two Bombs on Thandwe Town

Arakha Times | November 30, 2024

The military council dropped two bombs on Thandwe town in Rakhine State yesterday morning (November 29), according to local sources.

“One bomb fell on a hill near Na Daw Taung, while the other landed near a football field. They dropped at around 8 a.m. Fortunately, there were no casualties,” a resident of Thandwe told Arakha Times.

Just two days earlier, on November 27, a military jet dropped bombs around 11 a.m., injuring eight displaced people.

“Planes come every day, and people are so terrified they can’t even find peace at home or while eating. Bomb shelters are no longer enough—we are now digging bunkers where entire families can sleep,” another Thandwe resident said.

The town has faced frequent airstrikes in recent months. On September 26, bombs dropped on Thandwe’s Dwarawaddy city hall and environmental office, killing 14 civilians and injuring nearly 30 others.

Similar attacks occurred in October. At around 4 a.m. on October 24, airstrikes destroyed the Union Solidarity and Development Party office and a military recruitment office in Thandwe. On November 10, bombs dropped in three locations killed two locals.

Since the Arakan Army captured Thandwe town on July 16, 2024, the military council has intensified airstrikes across the region.

In September alone, 93 people were killed and 66 injured in Rakhine State due to airstrikes. In October, the military council reportedly bombed one township per day, with attacks from October 7 to October 13, killing 18 civilians and injuring 32 others.
