MNDAA Open to Dialogue Under China’s Mediation
Arakha Times | December 4, 2024
Lashio, Myanmar The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) announced on December 3 its willingness to resolve key issues, including matters in Lashio, through dialogue mediated by China.
In a statement, the MNDAA reaffirmed its commitment to remaining part of Myanmar, rejecting the idea of secession or forming an independent state. Instead, the group is demanding genuine self-governance while pledging to safeguard Myanmar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The MNDAA declared an immediate ceasefire, effective December 3, and vowed not to launch offensives against military council forces. The group also stated its full cooperation with China’s ongoing efforts to mediate the conflict.
To further the peace process, the MNDAA plans to send a high-level delegation to talks addressing the military council’s air and ground campaigns. It expressed optimism that political dialogue could resolve the current conflicts and differences.
While supporting a political resolution, the MNDAA emphasised that it retains the right to self-defence if necessary.
The statement highlights the group’s dual commitment to dialogue and self-preservation amid escalating tensions in Myanmar’s conflict-ridden regions.
