The Arakan Army (AA) has fully seized control of Toungok town in Rakhine State and is continuing its offensive against the No. 5 Regional Military Command (Sa Ka Kha No. 5) headquarters and subordinate battalions 346 and 544, according to a statement released by the AA.
“After a 17-day offensive from November 4 to 20, we successfully captured the entire town of Toungok as of November 24, 2024,” the AA announced.
The AA has taken over several military council bases, including those at Toungok University’s main gate and nearby rubber plantations. They also secured the university campus, where the military had heavily fortified its positions in the school buildings.
Other seized military council positions include a base at the Alin Nga Sin Pagoda Hill, bases near Phonnyo Village, including those around the Phonnyo Bridge, a checkpoint at the entrance of Toungok, which served as Sa Ka Kha No. 5 headquarters, camps within the Thein Taung neighbourhood, including one at Su Taung Pyae Monastery, positions at the Kyoe Kyar Kwan Checkpoint, Checkpoint at the Kai Shae Bridge, and military council bases near the Thiri Hospital and Goat Nay Dauk Kin area and the Toungok police station.
Simultaneously, the AA is conducting attacks on key strongholds, including Sa Ka Kha No. 5 headquarters and the battalion command centres of Battalions 346 and 544.
The AA also reported rescuing trapped civilians from Taungup town. However, remnants of looters remain, who have been stealing valuable items within the town. The AA stated that they are actively apprehending these individuals to restore order.
