In Rakhine State, the Arakan Army (AA) has begun a city siege battle in Taungup today, with fighting currently taking place inside the city.

“AA forces are firing from the Kaing Shay and Thit Saik directions. Due to drone surveillance, the military council is firing back with weapons from their positions, and there is intense gunfire in the city. Everyone is locking their doors. They can’t even leave anymore,” said a local resident of Taungup to the Arakha Times.

Due to the ongoing clashes between the Arakan Army and the military junta, some residents of Taungup have fled on foot toward the border areas or escaped by boat to Ramyee to avoid the fighting.

“Previously, military council troops were stationed at the top of the Kaing Shay bridge, but now they have retreated to the area near the traffic light and the junction. The fighting is still ongoing. Those who remain are crying and calling for help,” said a displaced person from Taungup to the Arakha Times.

Since the evening of November 9, fighting has occurred near the entrance of Taungup city near Taungup University, and the battle continues the next day near the Kaing shay bridge and today inside the city.

In the battle near Taungup University, over 20 junta soldiers have reportedly been killed, and their bodies were transported away by military vehicles for burial within their camp, according to local residents.

It is known that the military junta has deployed the SaKaKha (5) Command, Khamya (346) Battalion, and Khamya (544) Battalion in Taungup, Rakhine State.
