The Military Council detonated mines to destroy the Sapthwa Bridge in Gwa Township, Rakhine State, (November 14, 2024), before retreating to Kanthayar, according to reports.
“Last night, there were airstrikes and bombing; I’ve heard reports of casualties, but the exact details are unclear. As for the Sapthwa Bridge, it was destroyed with mines, and the troops have retreated to Kanthayar,” a local resident from Gwa Township told Arakha Times.
Following intensified offensives by the Arakan Army (AA), the Military Council troops withdrew from Sapthwa Village to Kanthayar and later relocated their artillery units stationed there towards Gwa Town, sources confirmed.
The Arakan Army successfully captured Thandwe in southern Rakhine on September 5 and continues to advance its campaign to secure Taungup and Gwa.
Since November 13, 2023, within a year, the Military Council has reportedly destroyed 28 key bridges in Rakhine State through aerial bombing and landmine detonation, disrupting essential routes relied upon by local residents.
