Arakha Times | November 29, 2024

The Student Armed Forces (SAF) reported on November 28 that it had captured 14 individuals, including Major Zaw Htet Naing, after ambushing a retreating military column from Ta Mai Kone camp, which is a branch of the Western Regional Military Headquarters (abbreviated as NAPAKHA) in Ann Township, Rakhine State. Two members of the column were killed during the clash.

In a statement, the SAF said: “Our forces, in coordination with allied units, ambushed and blocked the enemy column led by Major Zaw Htet Naing (Army No. 56178) along the Ann-Padan road. The clash resulted in two enemy fatalities and the capture of 14 prisoners, along with the seizure of two small arms and ammunition.”

The encounter reportedly left the military column in disarray, forcing it to flee. SAF and allied forces are actively pursuing the retreating troops, according to the statement.

The joint operation involved the SAF, the Army Corps of Engineers (ACDF), and the 2nd Battalion of Minbu District.

The SAF also confirmed that the captured prisoners of war are receiving necessary medical care and are being detained in compliance with international standards for the treatment of prisoners.

The Student Armed Force has received specialised combat training from the Arakan Army (AA), bolstering its capabilities in recent operations.
